Day 7: Joelle and Kyan

Joelle: Today was our first day in MonteVerde after arriving late the night before. The first thing we did this morning was visit the cloud forest to look at some really cool birds. We even saw the effusive quetzal the bird that the reserve is attempting to protect. After that we packed a lunch and headed to the largest private nature reserve. After a long hike we proceeded to take part in a mindfulness activity. After hiking back we made our way to downtown MonteVerde to explore the stores. It was really interesting to see how important ecotourism is in Monte Verde. We had an amazing dinner and dessert and went back to our hotel to watch our videos from Tortuguero. It was amazing to see the past week as it felt like a long time ago.

Kyan: We started off the day at the ardillas hotel. The breakfast this morning consisted of eggs, toast, and an assortment of sandwich ingredients such as avocados and ham. After breakfast the whole group got onto the buss to ride to Monte verde cloud forest. When we arrived we were instantly greeted by our tour guides and as we entered the forest we saw an interesting creature called a coati which looked like a raccoon mixed with an ant-eater. After entering the forest we did a 2 hour long walk in which we saw a vast amount of biodiversity including birds such as the green tucán which is an emerald colored bird and the quetzal which is a multi colored exotic and endangered species that resides in Costa Rica’s cloud forests. After the walk the groups gathered together and got on the buss to drive to our next destination which is a nature reserve in which we did a self guided tour along with a multitude of other activities such as a mindfulness session led by three of our group members and a  delicious packed lunch consisting of a ham sandwich and a variety of other snacks. After hiking back to the bus we all arrived back at the hotel and had a two and a half hour break. A little bit before lunch we had a 40 minute walk around the center of the town. While walking around and looking at the stores and attractions, the group interviewed the locals in Spanish about the effects of tourism in Monte Verde. After regrouping we had a delicious dinner consisting of different dishes such as vegan curry and rica and chicken. We ended of the night with a group watch session of the scavenger hunt that we all participated in while we stayed at tortuguero. It was funny and a bit embarrassing but it was a fun experience nonetheless.

  2. A paradise for those who love the outdoors, Costa Rica has an abundance of amazing scenery and one-of-a-kind experiences. Of them, the Rio Celeste Hike is a must-do experience for anyone looking to fully appreciate the natural splendor of the nation. Visitors from all over the world are drawn to the Rio Celeste, which is tucked away within the Tenorio Volcano National Park, because of its breathtaking turquoise waters (Rio Celeste Aventuras).
