Day 8: Kelly, Allison, and Natasha

 Today was our second full day in Monteverde! We started the morning with a mindful yoga class, where we delocalized and simply focused on the self. We learned to accept the present as what it is and not to anticipate the future. Although we were in a room with all of our peers, we ourselves, for that hour and a half or so, truly felt individualized, maintaining a deep focus on our own breath and thoughts. Following this activity, we headed back into town to do a bit more shopping! In the same area, we also had had our lunch, which included fresh juices, hamburgers, burritos, and bowls. Fueled up and ready, we then headed over to the zip line location! After putting on all of our gear and taking professional portraits, we had a quick briefing on zip lining techniques. The views were simply amazing as we soared over the mountains. One highlight was going in the "Superman" position over a kilometer long line! As for the final section, there was a bungee jump, soaring from the skies back down into the mountains. Happy but tired, we all headed over to a family owned restaurant for pizza! The views were absolutely stunning as we watched the sun set into the clouds. Our day was not quite done yet as we still had the night hike! 


The night hike included completely different wildlife from our previous cloud forest hike yesterday. Yesterday, we mostly saw birds, but in today’s night hike, we essentially saw every type of creature! Mammals such as monkeys and sloths (a mom with her baby- SO CUTE!!!), reptiles (a very green viper snake), birds, bugs (crickets, roaches), 6 different spider species including tarantulas, and amphibians (lots of frogs!!). After our group got a little off track exploring, we quickly returned to the trail and returned to the main office where we got an amazing view of the moon through our guide’s telescope. It was a long day,  but the views, friends, and experiences made it one of my favorites!!

Liam: Starting at one in the morning, we boarded a 6 1/2 hour flight to San Jose, and painstakingly sat for an extra hour and thirty minutes for the connecting flight. After we left the airport, we boarded a bus and met our Envoy instructors, John Michael and Pablo. The bus ride was also very long, but felt quicker than the flight because I caught up on sleep that I lost. Our last mode of transport for the day was boat. It was nice to see the jungle and rainforest, but we were once again traveling for hours. When we arrived at Tortuguero we were assigned our rooms and roommates (mine is Mateo). Day 2: Charlotte and Piper

 Today we ventured throughout the tortguero forest. Starting in the morning, we all hopped in small canoe boats (powered by electrical energy to limit pollution) and explored the forest by water. We got to see caymans (small crocodiles), countless birds, a bunch of monkeys, and a few igunanas. After we ate a delicious lunch, we had the opportunity to explore the national park through a beautiful trail. We saw more monkeys here, and got the chance to see a poisonus tree frog and a sloth! we ended the trail on the beach and did some pollution clean up. Tonight, we plan to take a walk and try our luck watching turtles nest or catching a glimpse of a jaguar! Today was such a wonderful beginning to nine more days of experiencing nature in beautiful Costa Rica. Charlotte: On the second day of your adventure in coasta rica we woke up bright and early to enjoy a nice canoe ride through the jungle. Our lovely guide pointed out several species of native and migrating birds, lizards, and monkeys!
